Karen Cowan Edwards
Duplin Winery chose this beautiful painting by Richlands artist Karen Cowan Edwards, as the wine label artwork to represent 2011 White Pearl.
Karen was raised in Duplin County, a part of southeastern North Carolina. At age six, she picked up her first paintbrush and knew that she had found her passion in life… ART. Through support from her family, opportunities were always there for her to pursue her love and talent throughout her childhood.
Her formal education began in 1974 with pursuit of a Bachelor of Science from the Leo Jenkins School of Art at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Upon completion of this work, she has continued to study across the State in university seminars and workshops with nationally recognized artists. Her work expands across multiple mediums including acrylics, oils, pastels, as well as pen and pencil work. Karen is best known for commissioned personal portraits, as well as public and private building and wall murals.
Karen fills each creation with her enthusiasm for life, in hope that the work will be an inspiration and legacy for those who view it. Her passion for the natural coastline and wildlife found there has become a new part of her continuous gift of art to others. She and her husband of 33 years utilize their travels along the coastal shores as a special opportunity to share the beauty of coastal North Carolina with others. They are looking forward to expanding their coastal adventures to the Florida coastline and the Caribbean islands.
